Read more about our helpful tips to keep your tank running correctly below.
Septic system do's and don'ts
Do's
- Clean your septic system regularly. Tanks with filters should have maintenance performed every six months.
- Inspect your aeration system every six months.
- Be conservative with your water use.
- Use enzymes in non-aerated systems to help keep the bacteria alive.
- Use septic-safe toilet paper and laundry detergent.
Dont's
- Don't put items such as cooking fats, oils, backwash, or anything that could potentially clog your system down the drain.
- Don't build anything within 10 feet of your septic system.
- Beware of letting heavy vehicles drive over your system. It could affect soil compaction and reduce your system's ability to process water.
- Don't flush trash, baby wipes, hygiene products, etc., down your septic system.
- Please don't use bleach in your system, as it kills bacteria.
